Character Creation for the Plot-First Novelist

CharPick

Thank you for your interest in CharPick, which can stand alone as a writer's little buddy or can take its place as a vital component in the Character Creation for the Plot-First Novelist system.

CharPick is a little utility I thought up several years ago. I wanted a quick way to create random minor characters.

Like maybe I needed a cashier at the grocery store or a messenger from the front, but I didn't want to take a long time to create a full character, nor did I want a stereotypical character.

So I came up with the idea of a randomizer program that would choose one item from each of a number of lists: hair color, height, build, age, etc. With the press of a single button I had a fully realized "extra" for my book.

But I quickly realized that CharPick was useful in my major characters, too. Soon I was using it all the time. It's actually pretty fun just to play with as a software toy, too.

It's fully customizable, too. If you need the program to choose which of a hundred foreign countries the character should be from, CharPick can do it. If you need to know which branch of medicine your doctor characters pursued, CharPick is there.

When you purchase CharPick you receive:

  1. The CharPick program itself (in computerese, this is the executable, the .exe you launch to run the program)

  2. The CharPick data file (this is the little text (.ini) file where all the lists are kept)

  3. The CharPick README file (instructions on how to install, operate, and customize CharPick)

Note that CharPick is currently available only for Windows computers.

The regular price for CharPick is $12.00, but for a limited time it is available for $5.00
